Name RachaelAbout ARTIST STATEMENT The tension between illusion and reality is vitally important to my practice. I’m attracted to the creation of unusual situations that initially mislead or subvert the narrative. The continually evolving cinematic language of film, which has superseded the symbolism that painting has traditionally employed for story telling, particularly interests me. It is intriguing how current media embraces the early effects, using back screen projection instead of CGI. I continue to explore production methods and older effects that are now free from their original purpose as the replacement of real. In the High Definition future the current disadvantages of digital video cameras like their grainy quality in darkness will become its assets and thought of as a style. I want to take advantage of the future fetishisation of low budget digital video cameras much like those who use Polaroid pictures or Super 8.
